Suzetrigine (Journavx): first-in-class NaV1.8 sodium-channel blocker offering non-opioid oral relief for moderate-to-severe acute pain
Abstract
Tissue injury, inflammation, or surgical trauma causes acute moderate-to-severe pain, which is a major cause of healthcare utilization worldwide. Pathophysiologically, nociceptive signaling is stimulated by the activation of peripheral sensory neurons, and the NaV1.8 voltage-gated sodium channel plays an important role in action potential conduction and the amplification of pain; it belongs to the NaV1 channel family. In patients, severe pain is often accompanied by functional disability, psychological suffering
