Abstract

Editorial for “Different Attenuation Models of Diffusion-Weighted Imaging for the Differentiation of Benign and Malignant Musculoskeletal Tumors: A Volumetric in Addition to the Standard Approach” The differentiation of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors, especially through noninvasive examination, has been a topic of interest for a long time. Functional imaging methods, including m-DWI, IVIM, and DK, have been used to differentiate benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors in clinical practice. It has been demonstrated that there are clear disparities in some parameters derived from functional imaging, such as apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), pseudodiffusion coefficient (D*), and mean kurtosis (K ), between benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors. However, although some previous studies demonstrated that these parameters showed good diagnostic performance for differentiating benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors, no definitive conclusions regarding the optimal method or parameter have been reached to date. Based on these facts, some researchers prospectively compared the diagnostic performance of some parameters derived from monoexponentialdiffusion weighted imaging (m-DWI), intravoxel incoherentmotion (IVIM), and diffusion kurtosis (DK) imaging. In addition, the authors attempted to explore the diagnostic performance of this multiparametric approach. In the present study, the authors prospectively enrolled 50 patients diagnosed with benign (N =…
