Study on the Combination of Cefoperazone or Ceftazidime with Levofloxacin Against Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in Respiratory Tract Infection and in the Vitro Activities
Abstract
Objective:To estimate the combination effect of cefoperazone, ceftazidime with levofloxacin in vitro, and provide experimental data for clinical practice. Methods:Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)values of three antibiotics were determined in Mueller Hinton broth by the microdilution technique.MICs of the combination of cefoperazone or ceftazidime and levofloxacin were determined by the microdilution chequer board-technique,interpretation of the results was made by calculation of FIC.Results:The results of combining cefoperazone or ceftazidime with levofloxacin showed that synergy was found 35.5%~38.7%,addition was 41.9%~45.2%,indifference was 16.1%~22.6%,none of the combination had an antagonistic effect. Conclusion:The results suggested that synergism and additivity of cefoperazone or ceftazidime with levofloxacin respectively against PA which caused respiratory tract infection should be main action, there was no antagonism.
