Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the impact of long chain omega-3 PUFA (Polyunsaturated fatty acids) supplementation on executive function in collegiate athletes in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Conditions: Brain Health, Brain Function, Brain Development.

Primary outcome: Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS); Stroop Test; Stroop Test; Trail Making Test; Trail Making Test; Stop-Signal Test; Stop-Signal Test; Digit Span; Digit Span; Wisconsin Card Sort Test; Wisconsin Card Sort Test; Circulating levels of fatty acids - EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in plasma; Circulating levels of fatty acids - EPA on red blood cells; Circulating levels of fatty acids - DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) on Red blood cells; Circulating levels of fatty acids - DHA in plasma.

Enrollment: 22 participants.

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence. Reported size: 22 participants or records.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
