Abstract

Transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) has emerged as a minimally invasive alternative to laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication for the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, comparative data on safety and symptom recurrence remain limited. This retrospective cohort study utilized data from the global TriNetX Collaborative Network. Adult patients (aged ≥ 18 years) with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who underwent either transoral incisionless fun-doplication (TIF) (CPT code 43210) or laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication(CPT code 43280) before December 31, 2023, were included. Patients were divided into two cohorts based on the type of surgical intervention received. Propensity score matching (PSM) (1:1) was performed. Clinical outcomes, including dysphagia, recurrent GERD symptoms, nausea or vomiting, were compared between groups. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and p-values were reported, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. After PSM, 977 patients were

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a cohort study, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence. Reported size: 977 participants or records.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
