p-Phenylenediamine-bridged periodic mesoporous organosilica with accessible amine sites for efficient CO2 adsorption under mild conditions
Abstract
Abstract A co-condensation route was used for the synthesis of p -phenylenediamine-bridged periodic mesoporous organosilica (PPDA-PMO) to introduce accessible and cooperative amine sites within an ordered mesostructure. The synthesized periodic mesoporous organosilica (PPDA-PMO) nanomaterial was characterized using different techniques including Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), EDS elemental mapping, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET). The PPDA-PMO nanomaterial was applied as an efficient adsorbent for CO 2 capture in ambient temperature and different pressures. The PPDA-PMO exhibited enhanced CO 2 adsorption capacity, reaching 12.8 mmol/g at 298 K and 9.0 bar, and also 2.6 mmol/g at ambient conditions (298 K and 1.0 bar). In comparison with most of other mesoporous materials, PPDA-PMO nanomaterial showed better performance in CO 2 adsorption in the same conditions. Reusability of the adsorbent was also investigated via adsorption/desorption cycles and results represent the potential of the adsorbent for use in multicycle CO 2 adsorption processes.
