26-PUB: Real-World Preference for Triple Fixed-Dose Combination of Empagliflozin, Sitagliptin, and Metformin by Various Health Care Specialist in India: Real Impossible Trio
Abstract
Introduction and Objective: Fixed dose combination (FDC) of empagliflozin sitagliptin and metformin recently approved in India and there were limited data on its utilization pattern. This study evaluates demographic characteristics, comorbidities, and prescription patterns of triple FDC prescribed for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients by healthcare specialists in outpatient setting.
Methods: Cross-sectional, observational, real-world study approved by ethics committee. Data of T2DM patients prescribed on triple FDC from 312 centers across India were collected. Specialties like Physician, Diabetologist, Endocrinologist, Cardiologist & Nephrologist recorded patients’ data in eCRF. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and between-group comparisons with ANOVA and t-tests.
Results: A total of 2290 patients with T2DM (mean age 54.22 ± 11.4 years; 58.29% male) using triple FDC were analyzed. Physician (44.37 %), Diabetologist (38.52%) were primary prescriber of FDC followed by Endocrinologist (8.08%), Cardiologist (8.08%), & Nephrologist 0.96 %. The most frequent dose was Empagliflozin 25 + Sitagliptin 100 + Metformin 1000 (52.75%), followed by Empagliflozin 10 + Sitagliptin 100 + Metformin 1000 (47.25%). Cardiologists showed preference for 10 mg based FDC (n=142) over 25 mg (n= 43) however endocrinologist and nephrologist preferred 25 mg based FDC. Hypertension (n= 208; 9.8%) and cardiovascular diseases (n= 198, 8.6%) were the leading comorbidities. In patients…
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a cross-sectional, done in people. Its evidence level is 4 of 5 (Low · observational). Observational designs can show an association but not prove cause. Reported size: 2,290 participants or records.
