Abstract

the older population but remained stable in the younger population. Among older patients, TURP was most commonly utilized (45%), followed by LP (30%), TUMT (17%), TUNA (5%), OP (2%) and TUIP (1%). Among younger patients, TURP (38%) was more closely followed by LP (31%) and then TUMT (18%), TUNA (8%), TUIP (3%) and OP (2%). CONCLUSIONS: Over a 10-year span, older LUTS/BPH patients had a higher prevalence of surgical procedures than younger LUTS/BPH patients, and TURP and LP were the most commonly performed procedures. There was a dramatic reduction in surgical therapy for LUTS/BPH among older but not younger patients.

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a meta-analysis. Its evidence level is 1 of 5 (Highest · pooled evidence). Pooled evidence from several studies sits at the top of the evidence pyramid.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
