Uncommon Presentation of Mycoplasma pneumoniae: Rash and Mucositis Manifestation
Abstract
Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections cause upper and lower respiratory tract infections across all age groups and may also present with extrapulmonary involvement in addition to respiratory tract disease. Mycoplasma pneumoniae-induced rash and mucositis (MIRM) are rare but crucial to recognize. It is characterized by prominent but infrequent vesiculobullous and/or target-like eruptions and mucositis. This case report presents a 30-year-old patient with M. pneumoniae pneumonia who presented with a rash and mucositis, without any comorbidities.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a case report, done in people. Its evidence level is 5 of 5 (Very low · case / narrative / animal / in vitro / in silico). Case reports, narrative reviews, and animal, cell or computer-model studies give the weakest evidence for human health.
