(080) Impact of the Optilume BPH Catheter System on Sexual Function and Voiding Outcomes: A Systematic Review
Abstract
Benign Prostatic Obstruction (BPO) is increasingly prevalent and a common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), significantly impacting quality of life. While traditional medical and surgical treatments are effective in relieving symptoms, they often carry a risk of sexual dysfunction. This has led to the development of minimally invasive surgical therapies (MISTs) aimed at preserving sexual function while improving urinary outcomes. The Optilume BPH Catheter System is a novel MIST that combines mechanical dilation of the prostatic urethra with localized delivery of paclitaxel to treat LUTS secondary to BPO. This systematic review evaluates current evidence on its impact, focusing primarily on sexual function and secondarily on voiding parameters.
To systematically assess available evidence on Optilume BPH Catheter System and its outcomes on sexual function and voiding parameters.
This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. A comprehensive search Google scholar, Web of science, PubMed, Scopus and ClinicalTrials.gov was performed. Studies were screened and selected using Covidence, and data were extracted into Microsoft Excel. Outcomes of interest included sexual function measures such IIEF-5, MSHQ-Ejaculatory Function (EjF), and Ejaculatory Bother (EjB); along with validated instruments for LUTS such as the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 tool (ROB-2) for…
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a systematic review, done in people. Its evidence level is 1 of 5 (Highest · pooled evidence). Pooled evidence from several studies sits at the top of the evidence pyramid. Reported size: 180 participants or records.
