The effect of icariin on prolifetration and differentiation of osteoblasts in vitro
Abstract
Objective To demonstrate the effect of icariin on proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts in vitro. Methods Calvaria of the newbone Wistar rat was used and th e osteoblast culture technique was a dopted for the study. The effect of ic ariin on proliferation and differentiation of osteoblastes in vitro was observed by cell count and a ssay of ALP activity.Results(1)Various doses of icariin could affect the osteoblast proliferation.Icariin was the most effective with the concentration of 10ng /ml (P0.05).(2)Icariin might depress ALP activity in the early stage of the cultured osteoblasts and improve ALP activity in the later stage.(3)The results demonstrated that the ic ariin could improve the osteoblastic prolifera tion in the early stage, and had more b enefit for the differentiation of th e osteoblasts in the later peri-od.Conclusion The icariin could improve osteoblastic proliferation and develop the osteoblastic activity .
