Bone loss & platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio
Abstract
AIM: The aim of the study is to assess the possible relation of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil-to-platelet ratio and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels with low bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women.
METHODOLOGY: In total, 211 postmenopausal women were divided into two groups according to their T-score results. The control group consisted of 32 and BMD group consisted of 179 patients. Electronic records of the patients were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULT(S): PLR was statistically significantly higher in the BMD group. According to receiver operating characteristic analysis, PLR was found to be a discriminative factor for low BMD.
CONCLUSION: PLR level may predict low BMD with baseline measurement in postmenopausal women.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a case-control, done in people. Its evidence level is 4 of 5 (Low · observational). Observational designs can show an association but not prove cause. Reported size: 211 participants or records.
