Effect of OATP1B1 genetic polymorphism on tamoxifen response in Iraqi breast cancer women
Abstract
Breast cancer is a major health issue among Iraqi women, and tamoxifen is widely used for estrogen receptor-positive cases. This study evaluated the impact of rs4149057 and rs2291075 mutations on tamoxifen response by analyzing biomarkers such as CA 15.3, calcium, vitamin D3, and estradiol in patients receiving tamoxifen. A total of 100 cases were classified by genotype: mutant, homozygous, and heterozygous. Blood samples were collected, biomarkers analyzed, and mutations identified using PCR. Significant differences were found among groups. Mutant carriers showed lower calcium and higher CA15-3, D3, and estradiol levels, especially in homozygous cases. These findings suggest that genetic mutations may affect hormonal and metabolic balance, influencing treatment outcomes. The study highlights the potential role of genetic testing in guiding personalized therapy. Further research is needed to explore the molecular mechanisms and clinical relevance. Breast cancer is common among Iraqi women and ranks as the second leading cause of death. Tamoxifen is the standard treatment for estrogen receptor-positive patients. The response to tamoxifen may be influenced by rs4149057 and rs2291075 variants in the SLCO1B1 gene, which this study investigates. Assess the distribution of rs4149057 and rs2291075 SNPs in Iraqi breast cancer patients. Detect SLCO1B1 gene variants. Evaluate the effect of these mutations on tamoxifen response. 100 patients were grouped by genotype. Blood samples were…
