Overview of migraine and novel approach in its treatment
Abstract
Migraine is headache occurring only in one side at a time which is extremely painful and many times associated with nausea and vomiting.Exact cause of migraine is still not known but lot of research is going on to identify mechanism of this disease and various novel drugs, diagnostic tests and drug delivery systems.Drugs from natural origin and its potential effect in treatment of migraine as well as drugs from traditional Indian system of medicines is also becoming new important aspect in treatment of migraine. This review article gives an overview about basic pathophysiology, different types of migraine and their symptoms as well as various antimigraine treatments available so far.Worldwide 15% of total population more has various side effects and not all patients responded to the treatment.Frequency of attacks may increase due to overuse of acute headache medications like NSAIDS it results into conversion of acute migraine into chronic migraine.Hence it was important to discover potential targets and novel approach in treatment of migraine.Commonly affects women 19% than men 11%.Migraine most commonly begins from 15-24 years of age.By globally burden of disease study it was the third highest prevalent neurological disability.Along with conventional antimigraine drugs novel therapies like humanized antibodies, targeted 5-HT F therapies are some of the recent 1 developments in synthetic drugs. As we know since from thousands of years plants with medicinal properties are…
