Is Aripiprazole Really Metabolically Safer Than Olanzapine?
Abstract
All antipsychotics, including aripiprazole, require metabolic monitoring. Weight gain risk exists regardless of the specific antipsychotic used. Consider prophylactic metformin when starting olanzapine or clozapine. Optimal psychiatric treatment may be more important than metabolic concerns. Olanzapine remains a valuable option for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Its efficacy is likely second only to clozapine.
