INTEGRATE: New Schizophrenia Treatment Guidelines
Abstract
Consider aripiprazole 5mg daily as a starting point for first-episode psychosis if the patient has no preference. Discuss switching first-episode patients from oral to long-acting injectable antipsychotics after establishing efficacy and tolerability, not only for poor adherence. Offer clozapine promptly for treatment resistance—after 12 weeks of failing two antipsychotics. Consider metformin routinely when using metabolically high-risk antipsychotics.
