Assessment of Microplastic Sampling Methods for Drinking Waters
Abstract
The performance of two types of microplastic (MP) sampling equipment (open sieve stack and enclosed in-line filtration) were directly compared by assessing the recovery of spiked reference microplastics and susceptibility to contamination. To facilitate spike and recovery, an optimal fluorescent reference material was identified and prepared to: i) represent environmentally and toxicologically relevant MPs (15 μm MPs was similar. These results represent a significant step towards standardization of MP sampling in drinking water.
