Abstract

Highlights • Diabetes is known to increase the risk of metabolic bone disease and fractures.• It has been postulated that SGLT2i use alters calcium, phosphate and vitamin D balance and could impact bone mineral density.• Among high-risk 76,000 SGLT2i users, there was no increased risk of fracture associated with SGLT2i use.

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a cohort study, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
