The Effects of Light Therapy on Circadian Rhythms, Sleep, and Mood in Postpartum Depression

ClinicalTrials.gov · COMPLETED, 2016

10 participants

Abstract

The proposed study aims to establish the feasibility of light therapy for postpartum depression delivered via Re-Timer, demonstrate its preliminary efficacy, and illuminate relationships between circadian shifts and mood changes using a novel, home-based circadian biomarker assessment paradigm (salivary dim light melatonin onset; DLMO).

Conditions: Depression, Postpartum.

Primary outcome: Change From Baseline Score of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-Seasonal Affective Version (SIGH-SAD) at 5 Weeks; Change From Baseline Score of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) at 5 Weeks; Change From Baseline Time of Dim Light Melatonin Onset (DLMO) at 5 Weeks.

Enrollment: 10 participants.

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a clinical trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence. Reported size: 10 participants or records.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
