Abstract

Background: Several studies have been carried out to assess the effectiveness of current combination therapies for H. pylori infection. Usually, a PPI is combined with two antibiotics (triple therapy) or bismuth salts are added to these three medication agents (quadruple therapy). Antibiotic selection ought to be region-specific, taking into account local H. pylori resistance to those drugs. Aim of the Study: The objective is to evaluate and compare the efficacy of treatment regimens for H. pylori infection. Methods: A retrospective cohort study will be conducted at the Gastroenterology department at King Hussein Medical Centre in The Royal Medical Services, Amman, Jordan. Electronic health records (Hakeem) will be accessed for data extraction. Inclusion criteria will be patients who were diagnosed with H. pylori infection and received one of the two prescribed eradication regimens. Version 24 of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) will be used to code and analyse the data. Results: We enrolled 62 patients in the…

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a cohort study, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence. Reported size: 62 participants or records.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
