The comparison of postantibiotic effects induced by ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin in vitro
Abstract
Objective: To compare the postantibiotic effects(PAEs)induced by ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin. Methods: PAEs were determined by the spectrophotometric method using AVANTAGE Microbiology System. Results: Ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin had significant PAEs against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and the PAEs were both timeand concentration-dependant.The PAE of levofloxacin was longer than that of Ciprofloxacin against Staphylococcus aureus,Colibacillus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusion: The rational prolongation of drug intervals is recommended according to the PAE of levofloxacin. The once daily levofloxacin dosing has better efficacy.
