Clinical verification of levofloxacin mesylate vs levofloxacin
Abstract
AIM: To compare the efficacy and safety of levofloxacin mesylate with levofloxacin in the treatment of bacterial infections. METHODS: A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted. One hundred and twenty six patients with bacterial infections were divided into two groups. Levofloxacin mesylate groups sixty three patients, (M 30, F 33, age (41± s 6) a); Levofloxacin group sixty three patients, (M 36, F 27, age (40±9) a). The two groups were orally given levofloxacin mesylate or levofloxacin 100 mg, tid, for 7 14 d, respectively. RESULTS: The total clinical effective rates were 89% (56/63) in levofloxacin mesylate group and 84% (53/63) in levofloxacin group. The bacterial clearance rates were 89% and 89%. The adverse reaction rates were 21%(13/63) and 18%(11/63), respectively. There was no statistical significance between two groups ( P 0.05 ). CONCLUSION: Levofloxacin mesylate and levofloxacin are effective and safe in the treatment of bacterials infections.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 2 of 5 (High · randomized trial). Randomized trials of a reasonable size are the strongest single-study design.
