Abstract

We, the Editors and Publisher of Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, have retracted the following article: Maged, A. M., Kamel, H. H., Sanad, A. S., Mahram, A. E., AbdAllah, A. A., Elkhateeb, R., Bhaa, H.A., Hussein, E.A., Essam, A. & Ibrahim, S. (2021). The value of amniopatch in pregnancies associated with spontaneous preterm premature rupture of fetal membranes: a randomized controlled trial. The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 34(2), 267–273. https://doi.org/10.1080/14767058.2019.1605348 Since publication, significant concerns have been raised about the integrity of the data and reported results in the article. When approached for an explanation, the authors provided the original data and responses to our queries. However, we were unable to verify the results reported in the article using the data provided. As verifying the validity of published work is core to the integrity of the scholarly record, we are therefore retracting the article and have informed the authors. We have been informed in our decision-making by our editorial policies and COPE guidelines. The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted’.

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 2 of 5 (High · randomized trial). Randomized trials of a reasonable size are the strongest single-study design.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
