Retracted Article: Does implementing a regime of dexamethasone before planned cesarean section at term reduce admission with respiratory morbidity to neonatal intensive care unit? A randomized controlled trial
Abstract
We, the Editors and Publisher of Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine have retracted the following article: Nooh, A. M., Abdeldayem, H. M., Arafa, E., Shazly, S. A., Elsayed, H., & Mokhtar, W. A. (2017). Does implementing a regime of dexamethasone before planned cesarean section at term reduce admission with respiratory morbidity to neonatal intensive care unit? A randomized controlled trial. The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 31(5), 614–620. https://doi.org/10.1080/14767058.2017.1293026 Since publication, significant concerns have been raised about the integrity of the data and reported results in the article. When approached for an explanation, the authors fully cooperated with the investigation and provided responses to our queries. However, these responses have not sufficiently addressed our concerns and the authors were unable to provide their raw data for assessment. As we cannot confirm the validity of the study as reported, we are therefore retracting the article. The authors have been informed of this decision. The authors do not agree with the retraction. We have been informed in our decision-making by our editorial policies and COPE guidelines. The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted’.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 2 of 5 (High · randomized trial). Randomized trials of a reasonable size are the strongest single-study design.
