RETRACTED ARTICLE: Foley’s catheter balloon for induction of mid-trimester missed abortion with or without traction applied: a randomized controlled trial
Abstract
We, the Editors and Publisher of Journal of Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, have retracted the following article: Ali, M. K., Botros, H. A., & Mostafa, S. A. (2020). Foley’s catheter balloon for induction of mid-trimester missed abortion with or without traction applied: a randomized controlled trial. The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 33(2), 198–205. https://doi.org/10.1080/14767058.2018.1487949 Since publication, significant concerns have been raised about the integrity of the data and reported results in the article. When approached for an explanation, the authors provided their original data for review. However, serious data integrity concerns remain as the journal was unable to replicate the study’s reported results based on the provided dataset. As verifying the validity of published work is core to the integrity of the scholarly record, we are therefore retracting the article, and have informed the authors. We have been informed in our decision-making by our editorial policies and COPE guidelines. The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted’.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 2 of 5 (High · randomized trial). Randomized trials of a reasonable size are the strongest single-study design.
