Investigating the synergistic effects of Telmisartan and Amlodipine with Metformin in patients with metabolic syndrome
Abstract
Abstract Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the synergistic therapeutic effects of telmisartan and amlodipine when combined with metformin in the management of metabolic syndrome. The study assessed their impact on blood pressure, glycaemic control, and lipid profile, with emphasis on improving cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes beyond their primary pharmacological effects. Methodology: A six-month prospective, open-label comparative study was conducted at the Government General Hospital in Ananthapuramu. A total of 136 patients with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned to two groups: telmisartan plus metformin (n = 68) and amlodipine plus metformin (n = 68). Blood pressure, random blood sugar, HbA1c, and total cholesterol levels were assessed at baseline and after 24 weeks. Data were analysed using statistical tests, with p-values
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 2 of 5 (High · randomized trial). Randomized trials of a reasonable size are the strongest single-study design. Reported size: 136 participants or records.
