Abstract

Background: Global sustainability challenges demand innovative integration of renewable energy systems and green nanotechnology to improve healthcare device efficiency while minimizing ecological impact and toxic waste generation. Objective: This study investigates bio-engineered nanomaterials and self-powered energy systems to enhance smart healthcare device performance, energy efficiency, and environmental remediation through sustainable biogenic synthesis and hybrid renewable-energy nanotechnology integration. Methods: A cross-sectional experimental study was conducted at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA, from January 2022 to June 2023. A total of 122 functional prototypes integrating triboelectric nanogenerators, bio-fuel-cell membranes, and zinc-oxide quantum dots were analyzed. Variables included energy conversion rate, biodegradability index, surface charge density, cytocompatibility, and environmental detoxification efficiency. Statistical analyses employed SPSS v26.0 using t-tests. Results: Mean energy-conversion efficiency was 87.6 ± 4.2%, significantly higher than conventional systems (p < 0.001). Bio-fuel-cell membranes achieved a biocompatibility index of 96.3 ± 2.8%, with degradation time reduced by 31.4% (p = 0.002). Cytotoxicity levels decreased to 2.4 ± 0.5% (95% CI 1.8–3.1). Surface charge density improved by 41.7% ± 3.6 (p < 0.001), and pollutant removal in environmental assays increased from 68.5 ± 6.2% to 92.4 ±…
