Quantitative measurements of lung function in children by means of Compton backscatter
Abstract
Compton backscatter of high energy gamma rays has been successfully used in 184 cases to determine absolute lung density and its variations in vivo. This method permits measurement of lung function without the active cooperation of the patient. Such information is of value in assessing the course of lung diseases and in evaluating therapy, especially in children under five years of age. Representative clinical records of both healthy and ill children are reviewed.
