Assessment of magnesium potassium phosphate cements for radioactive waste encapsulation
Abstract
In the UK, the current stabilisation/solidification technique for intermediate level waste (ILW) is for encapsulation in a Portland cement (PC) composite, which have desirable physical and chemical interactions with ILWs.However, niche waste streams such as reactive metals are known to corrode in the high pH and high free water environment of PCs.Corrosion can lead to the formation of expansive products A special thanks to Prof. Simon Pimblott and Ruth Edge based at the Dalton Cumbrian Facility, University of Manchester, who undertook the role of irradiating the MKPC samples in the Co-60 irradiator.I would like to express my appreciation to my family and friends who have shown their constant love, encouragement and moral support over the last few years.
