Synergistic anticancer effects of doxorubicin and metformin combination therapy: A systematic review
Abstract
HIghlights • Combined Doxorubicin and metformin regimens exert anticancer effects on various cancers in vitro and in vivo.• Combining metformin with Doxorubicin inhibited cell viability and decreased colony formation by inducing apoptosis or sensitization of cancer cells to the Doxorubicin.• The synergistic effects of metformin with Doxorubicin could reduce Doxorubicin drug resistance by various mechanisms.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a systematic review. Its evidence level is 1 of 5 (Highest · pooled evidence). Pooled evidence from several studies sits at the top of the evidence pyramid.
