Abstract

The thermogravimetriTermogravimetriac analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) have several applications in the pharmaceutical industry such as characterization, determination of humidity, purity, compatibility studies of pharmaceutical formulations, stability, thermal degradation kinetics and polymorphism. In this study, for the thermal analysis of hydrated active pharmaceutical ingredients: levofloxacin hemihydrate, moxifloxacin hydrochloride monohydrate, pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate, trisodium citrate dihydrate and atorvastatin calcium trihydrate, was avaliated the influence of the experimental parameters, heating rate and type of crucible. The increase of the heating rate results in a gain of sensitivity, decrease of analysis time, however, there is a loss of resolution. For lower heating rates, however the longer analysis time, there is an increase in resolution between thermal events. The crucible lid functioned as a barrier to the water outlet, doing all water to be eliminated at a higher temperature, when compared analysis with the crucible without the lid. Considering the results obtained, the analyzes made with crucible without lid and heating rate of 10ºC / min presented the best results.
