Abstract

This work explores some of the fundamental physical concepts and mathematical tools of quantum field theory in curved spacetimes, focusing on the properties of the so-called Sorkin-Johnston state, a proposal for a vacuum-like state in globally hyperbolic space times. Following the work of Fewster and Verch, we analyze its failure to satisfy the Hadamard condition in different situations. We also show that, in spite of not always being Hadamard, it is possible to explicitly compute quantities of physical interest, like the Casimir energy. Our approach combines analytical descriptions of the state with the application of numerical methods
