Ultrasound guided Glossopharyngeal and Maxillary Nerve Blocks for Perioperative Pain Control in Adenotonsillectomy in Pediatrics: Randomized Controlled Trial
Abstract
Abstract Background: Adeno-tonsillectomy surgery in pediatrics is associated with increased postoperative pain and discomfort, so combined bilateral ultrasound-guided glossopharyngeal nerve ( UGGNB ) and ultrasound-guided maxillary nerve ( UGMNB ) in pediatric patients undergoing adenotonsillectomy surgeries to validate previous findings & to help decrease perioperative opioid consumption and respiratory complications Objective: Efficacy of combined bilateral glossopharyngeal nerve block and bilateral maxillary nerve block on perioperative management of tonsillectomy under general anesthesia provide excellent analgesic profile & significant differences in food intake postoperatively. Methods: 40 Patients was randomly allocated into two groups: Block Group: 20 patients received combined bilateral UGGNB and UGMNB. Conventional Group: 20 patients received IV paracetamol 15mg/kg. Intraoperative hemodynamics were recorded baseline and at 15 minutes intervals. Quality of analgesia was assessed using Wong-Baker FACES scale for children more than 3 years of age up to 8 years of age and VAS score for older children every 30 minutes for 1 hours after recovery from anesthesia in PACU and every 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24 hours postoperative after transferring to the ward. For postoperative pain therapy, if pain scale scores are ≥ 4, first was IV ibuprofen 7.5mg/kg immediately postoperative. Results: -Pain was assessed by VAS or FACES scores, according to patient age, postoperative after 30…
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a randomized trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 2 of 5 (High · randomized trial). Randomized trials of a reasonable size are the strongest single-study design. Reported size: 40 participants or records.
