Metformin Treatment in Adolescent Patients With PCOS: A Long-term, Winning Metabolic Choice. Results From a Single Center 5-years Retrospective Clinical Study
Abstract
This study aimed to understand whether metformin therapy can improve insulin resistance in adolescent PCOS patients, both during treatment and after discontinuation, and to evaluate its action on the hormonal and metabolic pathways.
Conditions: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
Primary outcome: Insulin resistance change in eighty hyperinsulinemic patients after metformin therapy and its discontinuation; Androgen levels change in eighty hyperinsulinemic patients after metformin therapy and its discontinuation.
Enrollment: 168 participants.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a clinical trial, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence. Reported size: 168 participants or records.
