Simulation of energy spectrum of GEM detector from an x-ray quantum
Abstract
This paper presents the results of the energy resolution simulation for the triple GEM-based detector for x-ray quantum of 5.9 keV . Photons of this energy are emitted by 55 Fe source, which is a standard calibration marker for this type of detectors. The calculations were made in Garfield++ in two stages. In the first stage, the distribution of the amount of primary electrons generated in the drift volume by the x-ray quantum was simulated using the Heed program. Secondly, the primary electrons of the resulting quantitative distribution were treated as a source of electron avalanches propagated through the whole volume of the triple GEM-based detector. The distribution of the obtained signals created a spectrum corresponding to the peak at 5.9 keV, which allowed us to determine the theoretical energy resolution of the detector. Its knowledge allows observing and improving the eventual experimental deterioration of the energy resolution, inevitably accompanying processes of registration and processing of the signals.
