A review of seismic coherence techniques
Abstract
Seismic coherence technique is a remarkably simple yet powerful seismic attribute analysis technique, which is devel- oped recently and can reduce the cycle time of 3-D seismic data interpretation. This paper reviewed the development of seismic coherence techniques, summarized the physical and mathemati- cal basis of currently available seismic coherence algorithms, their applicability and developing trends, evaluated the key fac- tors affecting the resolution of seismic coherence, and described the applications of coherence technology in seismic interpreta- tion and hydrocarbon potential prediction of reservoirs.Seismic coherence techniques provide important information for explo- ring prospective reservoirs and subtle traps, and facilitate the study of seismic attribute analysis.
