Analysis of Metformin in Treatment of 26 Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Abstract
Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effects of metformin in treatment of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods:Twenty-six patients with PCOS were divided into an obese group (15 cases) and a non-obese group(11 cases) to determine the levels of blood insulin and the androgen before taking metformin and after taking it for 10~12 weeks respectively. Results:After taking metformin, the levels of fasting blood insulin in the obese group and the area under the curve of oral glucose tolerance in the non-obese group decreased clearly. And the androgen in basal state of two groups decreased clearly, too. Conclusions:There are actions of metformin on insulin resistance(IR) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and it can reduce the hyperandrogenism induced by hyperinsulinism.
