Abstract

Abstract Background Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) is the most prevalent acquired cardiac disease in dogs. Echocardiography is widely used for disease staging. However, the availability of biomarkers reflecting the molecular basis of disease progression remains limited. The objective was to characterize plasma proteomic profiles in dogs with American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) MMVD stages B2 and C, identify candidate biomarkers associated with disease progression, and investigate their potential interactions with commonly used cardiovascular drugs. Results Plasma samples from 41 dogs with MMVD stage B2 (26) and stage C (15) were analyzed with label-free liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and the candidate biomarkers were identified. Dogs with stage C MMVD had significantly dilated left ventricles, as represented by a higher normalized left ventricular internal diameter in diastole (LVIDDN; P

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a preprint, done in animal, not in people. Its evidence level is 5 of 5 (Very low · case / narrative / animal / in vitro / in silico). Case reports, narrative reviews, and animal, cell or computer-model studies give the weakest evidence for human health.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
