Synthesis of Moxifloxacin
Abstract
Moxifloxacin was synthesized from ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-6,7,8-trifluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3quinolinecarboxylate by hydrolysis, condensation and methoxylation in 71.5% overall yield. The condensation agent(S,S)-octahydro-6H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine was prepared from 8-benzyl-octahydro-6H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine by resolution with D-(-)-tartaric acid followed by debenzylation.
