Various antibiotics susceptibility of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus in children: A retrospective study
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the drug sensitivity profiles of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis (AHO) in children infected with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and investigate the influence of MRSA on acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in pediatric patients. Children diagnosed with acute hematogenous osteomyelitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus and admitted to Hebei Children's Hospital between January 2019 and September 2024 were categorized into 2 groups based on methicillin sensitivity: MRSA and methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). This study analyzed venous blood drug sensitivity results within 24 hours of admission and compared relevant clinical data differences between the 2 groups. A total of 60 cases were in the MRSA group and 73 in the MSSA group. The MRSA group showed significantly higher resistance rates to levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gentamicin, erythromycin, clindamycin, tigecycline, and sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim compared with the MSSA group (P < .05). The C-reactive protein level was significantly higher in the MRSA group (88.17 ± 63.20 mg/L) than in the MSSA group (59.83 ± 38.83mg/L) (P = .003*). The peak body temperature was also significantly higher in the MRSA group (39.81 ± 0.57°C) than in the MSSA group (38.77 ± 0.57°C) (P < .001*). Hospital stay duration was significantly longer in the MRSA group (32.20 ± 7.83 days) than in the MSSA group (24.42 ± 5.24 days) (P < .001*). Antibiotic costs, medication costs, anesthesia…
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a cohort study, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence.
