Moxifloxacin versus ciprofloxacin eye-drops in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis: A comparative study
Abstract
Objectives: A comparison between 0.5% Moxifloxacin and 0.3% Ciprofloxacin eye drops regarding the efficacy, safety, and recurrence rates in the management of bacterial conjunctivitis. Methods: A comparative retrospective study of bacterial conjunctivitis patients who were treated in Prince Hashim Bin Abdullah II and King Talal Military Hospitals between (February 2021 and October 2024) was carried out. These (638) patients were enrolled and divided into Group 1 (0.5% Moxifloxacin, n=319) and Group 2 (0.3% Ciprofloxacin, n=319). Clinical resolution, recurrence, antibiotic resistance, and safety were assessed and estimated for a follow-up of seven days up to three months. Results: Group 1 achieved a significantly faster clinical resolution rate compared to Group 2 (p
