Remarkable healing of a severe wound through surgical debridement, honey medicinal application, amniotic membrane, and bovine collagen powder; A case report study
Abstract
Introduction and importance Treating severe wounds presents considerable challenges in contemporary medicine, requiring novel strategies to improve healing and restore tissue integrity. This study examines the efficacy of a comprehensive approach that combines surgical debridement, honey as a medicinal application, amniotic membrane grafting, and bovine collagen powder. Case presentation 20-year-old male experienced significant injuries to his right hand due to a motor vehicle accident. Initial evaluations showed extensive lacerations and necrotic tissue. After stabilizing his condition, the patient underwent surgical debridement to eliminate non-viable tissue, thereby establishing an optimal healing environment. A structured wound care regimen was then initiated, including the use of honey, amniotic membrane, and bovine collagen. Discussion The therapy combination demonstrated effectiveness. Surgical debridement reduced the risk of infection and created a healthy wound bed. Honey helped retain moisture and displayed antibacterial properties, leading to a notable decrease in inflammation. The amniotic membrane facilitated cell migration and proliferation, thereby promoting tissue regeneration. Bovine collagen contributed to the structural integrity and cellular adhesion, further enhancing healing outcomes. Throughout the treatment, the patient reported significant pain relief. Conclusion This case highlights the promise of an integrated approach to managing complex wounds.…
