Abstract

Deformation detection is a method to measure the displacement between the start and end position of a target and can be used to measure all kinds of objects, including thermal expansion, distortion, vibration, strain, liquid level, thickness, mechanical shock.Among the optical ways measuring displacement, optical interferometry (OI) provides the highest resolution, accuracy and the longest measurement range, and recently is promising for the ability to detect submicron displacements without making physical contact with targets. On the other hand, photoacoustic imaging (PAI), a non-invasive and nondestructive bio photonic imaging method combining the advantages of high contrast properties of pure optical imaging and high penetration depth properties of pure ultrasound imaging and making biological tissue imaging free from harmful ionizing radiation and the use of contrast agents, has attracted significant attention in recent years compared to other medical imaging mechanisms. In this study, a non-contact OI-PA signal detection method that applies phase-diversity optical digital coherent detection technology originated from fiber-optic communication system that uses a narrow-linewidth laser source, a 90° optical hybrid, high-speed analog-to-digital converters, and digital signal processing was proposed, numerically investigated and experimentally demonstrated. The phase noise in the detection system, which always strongly affects the detection performance in a conventional…
