Abstract

Seracam is a portable camera ($15 ~\text{cm} \times 24 ~\text{cm}, 5 ~\text{kg}$) for nuclear imaging which provides hybrid gamma-optical imaging. At 50 mm imaging distance using ${ }^{99 ~\mathrm{m}}$ Tc, Seracam has a field of view of 80 mm diameter, a sensitivity of $3.6-52 \text{cps} / \text{MBq}$ and spatial resolution $4.6-26 ~\text{mm}$, depending on the choice of integrated collimator. This makes it well suited for intraoperative procedures such as in sentinel lymph node biopsy. We describe a new 'persistence mode' implementation which displays hybrid video and allows the end user to adjust imaging parameters (such as frame rate, accumulation time, pixel size, colour table) in real time. This improved ease of use, initially in bench tests, and finally in surgery with a pilot patient study carried out at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. Persistence mode was used to acquire hybrid optical-gamma images for patients undergoing lymphoscintigraphy. The introduction of persistence mode not only streamlined the imaging workflow but also enhanced the surgeon's ability to make real-time decisions, potentially reducing operative time and improving patient outcomes. These initial results suggest that hybrid gamma-optical imaging with dynamic video capability represents a significant advancement in radioguided surgery, offering both improved accuracy and greater ease of use. Further studies with larger patient cohorts are warranted to validate these findings and explore the full…
