Patient Preference for Erectile Dysfunction: Sildenafil Vs. Tadalafil
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this article is to compare patient preferences between sildenafil and tadalafil for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction (ED). Method: A PubMed literature search was conducted with search terms male erectile dysfunction, sildenafil, tadalafil, and patient preference. Eight pertinent articles were retrieved, and they served as the basis for this clinical review. Results: Based on the literature review, there was a positive correlation with patient preference for tadalafil over sildenafil. Conclusion: Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, like sildenafil and tadalafil, are the first line treatment options for erectile dysfunction. Both drugs improved male erectile function and enhanced patients' sexual performance, but there was a stronger preference for use of tadalafil. Having a better understanding of the pharmacology of both drugs and knowing the patient’s goals can serve as a determining factor when deciding which drug is the best option.
