Abstract

Effective antibiotic therapy is necessary for the best management of pneumonia, which is still a major source of morbidity and mortality globally.Because of its superior bioavailability and lung tissue penetration, levofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone, is frequently recommended to treat pneumonia that is acquired in hospitals and the community. The safety profile of levofloxacin is the main topic of this review, with a focus on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in patients with pneumonia.Gastrointestinal disorders, impacts on the central nervous system, and dermatological reactions are among the frequently reported adverse drug reactions (ADRs), according to data from clinical studies, pharmacovigilance databases, and published literature. But there have also been reports of severe adverse drug reactions (ADRs), especially in older patients, including QT interval prolongation, tendon problems, hepatotoxicity, dysglycemia, and hypersensitivity responses and people with co-occurring disorders. The review also emphasizes the importance of pharmacovigilance in the early identification, evaluation, and mitigation of hazards associated with drugs. To optimize treatment benefits while reducing potential risks, careful patient selection, dose adjustment, and ongoing monitoring are crucial.Overall, levofloxacin is still a useful treatment for pneumonia, but its usage requires careful safety monitoring to guarantee sensible and secure clinical practice.
