Rapid Clinical Improvement with Levofloxacin in Drowning-associated Pneumonia Complicated by Acute Lung Injury: A Case Report
Abstract
We report a case of acute lung injury following a near-drowning incident in a hot spring in an 85-year-old man with diabetes and dementia. Despite initial treatment with ceftriaxone, his condition deteriorated. However, subsequent levofloxacin treatment led to rapid improvement. Although Legionella pneumonia was suspected, it was not confirmed. This case suggests that levofloxacin contributed to recovery through its antimicrobial effect, though a definitive causal relationship remains speculative.
How strong is the evidence?
Evidence Hub reads this as a case report, done in people. Its evidence level is 5 of 5 (Very low · case / narrative / animal / in vitro / in silico). Case reports, narrative reviews, and animal, cell or computer-model studies give the weakest evidence for human health.
