Observation of quantum oscillations and large linear magnetoresistance in quasi-two-dimensional NdAgSb 2
Abstract
Rare-earth-based layered pnictides have attracted considerable attention in condensed matter physics owing to the intricate interplay between magnetism and nontrivial band topology. Motivated by this, we report the successful growth of high-quality single crystals of NdAgSb 2, and a comprehensive investigation of their anisotropic magnetic, transport, and magneto-transport properties. NdAgSb 2 crystallizes in a tetragonal crystal system with space group P4/nmm. Magnetic measurements reveal an antiferromagnetic transition at TN≈3 K. Electrical resistivity measurements confirm metallic behavior and reveal a pronounced anisotropic, nonsaturating linear magnetoresistance (MR), reaching approximately 400% and 70% for H∥c and H⊥c directions, respectively. Notably, Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations are observed in the Hall resistivity measurements. Analysis of the quantum oscillations reveals four distinct frequencies for Fermi pockets, with light effective masses and nontrivial π Berry phase, consistent with Dirac like electronic dispersion in NdAgSb 2. The field-induced evolution from twofold to fourfold MR symmetry indicates an anisotropic quasi-two-dimensional Fermi surface in NdAgSb 2.
