Abstract

The advent of quantum computing stands to revolutionize the healthcare landscape, including groundbreaking solutions to its biggest challenges. Drastic advancements in AI processing and analysis of data, far more than classical computing capabilities, open possibilities for AI to revolutionize drug discovery, genomics, patient data, etc. Quantum computing speeds up the search for potential drug candidates by simulating molecular interactions at unprecedented rates, which leads to accelerated graphing of other potential candidates and subsequently saving time and money on drugs. Moreover, it enables the optimization of healthcare data systems to ensure interoperability and secure, efficient management of patient records all in all a pressing requirement in the age of big data. The paper explores the sphere of quantum computing and its prospective applications in healthcare, particularly focusing on drug discovery and data management. It delves into how quantum algorithms like variational quantum eigensolvers (VQE) and quantum machine learning models tackle unique challenges in simulating biological systems and managing sensitive data. Using specific examples and case studies, the paper demonstrates the potential of quantum computing to revolutionize fields like protein folding, personalized medicine, and real-time patient monitoring. The opportunities are vast, but also so too are the challenges with bringing quantum computing into healthcare, with high costs, limited access…
