SPEEK ZnO Hybrid Nanocomposite with Enhanced Electrochemical Performance for Flexible Electrochemical Sensor Applications
Abstract
Abstract An effective electrochemical investigation was carried out on zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) polymer (SPEEK), and the sulfonated polyether ether ketone-zinc oxide (SPEEK/ZnO) nanocomposite using screen-printed electrodes. The synthesized ZnO NPs and SPEEK/ZnO nanocomposite underwent comprehensive characterization employing X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Cyclic voltammetry studies were conducted on bare screen-printed electrodes, SPEEK-modified electrodes, and SPEEK/ZnO-modified electrodes in a 5 mM K 3 [Fe(CN) 6 ] solution. Evaluation of the electrochemical behavior of these electrodes demonstrated that ZnO NPs enhanced the electrochemical properties of SPEEK. The enhanced electrochemical response observed for the SPEEK/ZnO nanocomposite is attributed to increased interfacial area, improved dispersion of ZnO nanoparticles, and synergistic interactions between ZnO and the sulfonated polymer matrix.
